Ok I need to write a coherent review but to be honest I’m just fangirling a lot. This book needs to be a hype. I’ll start off with a list of why’s:
- 21st century dragon slayers are BADASS
- And dragons are badass too though I also want to cuddle them. There is this thing called a soul bond and I live for telepathic conversations (oblivious dragon having no idea of pop culture keeps asking “is it time for Kumbayah yet?” is my favorite thing now)
- Sisters who love each other but there’s also rivalry as Eden wants to be the best and trains all day, but for Dani it comes effortlessly and she just wants to be normal – and they end up on opposite sides and aaah the feels!
- Also to get to that opposite site one need to go dark and wow she does just that and we get her pov so yay!
- All. The. Snark. And sarcasm. The sorcerers have mastered both magic and snark in their immortality. Dragons too. And teenagers. And dragon slayers. Basically everyone! Only a great writer can make me LOL several times in the middle of action scenes
- Diversity for everyone! Dani and her sister Eden are half Mexican, half Scottish, and Dani is bisexual.
- There is Tomás’ Latin family who is the best and Dani keeps getting tupperware boxes of food
- The action scenes! They are actually really fleshed out with moves and countermoves and felt so real
- Besides sisterhood, there’s FRIENDSHIPS. You know, healthy ones. I live for the banter.
- Also mental health rep (anxiety) which is really good! Soria really shows how you don’t need to be fixed as you are not broken
- FEELS. So much pain.
- There’s a lot of delicious food mentioned to help with the feels.
- For once, mature teenagers. Ok they run off into trouble EVERYWHERE and there are a lot of mistakes, but they own it and especially Dani is not quick to judge a person, she sees the other side of people and is able to apologise and/or forgive.
- Soul sharing with a dragon is the best.
- There is a little romance, but it is not the main focus aka perfection
- I need a sequel. I know this is probably a standalone but PLEASE I need more of this!
- Also amazing pacing, wasn’t bored from beginning to end and yet not overwhelmed by too much action.
This list has become my review as it contains all you need to know. Fun, entertaining, feels, banter, dragons, it has it all!
I received a free ecopy from Edelweiss and it has not influenced my opinions.
